Spurwink's Payroll Specialist prepares and makes all payroll deposits by the required due dates, prepares and files quarterly and annual tax reports and annual W2s, prepares other reports to regulatory agencies as require, and maintains the payroll earnings register. In addition, the Payroll Specialist cross-trains other Finance department employees on the duties of his/her position, assists with audits, and sets up and maintains various employee benefits in the payroll system.
The Payroll Specialist shall report to the Controller and will be responsible for the following duties:
*1. Prepare and maintain the bi-weekly payroll run.
•Process the bi-weekly payroll for all Spurwink Services employees
•Update the payroll records for new hires, terminations or changes
•Update the payroll system for changes in payroll tax rates
•Maintain all payroll records and reports
•Prepare and make all payroll deposits by required due dates
•Prepare and file all quarterly and annual payroll State and Federal tax reports and by the due dates
•Prepare various other reports to regulatory agencies as required
•Maintain the payroll earnings register.
•Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all payroll and employee data.
2.Train other designated finance staff members in the performance of all job functions above. This requires ongoing education for changes in the tax codes, regulations or program functions.
*3.Prepare and file all quarterly and annual reports to the State of Maine by the required due dates.

5.Assist with audits of the year-end financial statements and audits by third-party funding agencies.
6.Assist with the preparation of required audit schedules and reconciliations. Assist auditors as necessary (i.e. answering questions, gathering data, etc.)
7.Calculate employee over/under payments.
8.Perform various other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Controller.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred. A minimum of two years experience with payroll processing on an in-house payroll processing system in an organization of equivalent size. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Willingness to work effectively in a team oriented environment. Familiarity with personal computer spreadsheets and database packages, including Excel, and Microsoft Word.
