Cultural Broker/ Children's Care Coordinator (Cumberland County)

The Cultural Broker operates across home, community, school and office settings. He/she works in partnership with a clinician and/or other Spurwink service providers to reduce cultural barriers for refugee families. He/she assists the clinician in understanding cultural norms and values of the family being served. The Cultural Broker will learn Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees, a model that works with families to negotiate cultural differences, increase collaboration among service providers and systems, and reduces stress associated with acculturation.
As a care coordinator, he/she will provide intake, assessment, and case management services for clients.
As a Cultural Broker/ Care Coordinator within the ShifaME team, you will be serving the refugee and asylee population in Cumberland County. You will provide intake and complete assessment process when clients are referred and develop a plan of care for the child with input from the team that integrates behavioral and physical health needs and goals. You will oversee implementation of the plan and monitor progress. You will connect families with needed resources, address barriers, and make referrals. You will work closely with our school partners in Westbrook/Portland and beyond, and potentially co-locate within a school to enhance collaboration and teamwork. Care coordinators need to be highly organized with paperwork, inputting case notes and time management skills.
Bachelors degree preferred, high school diploma required. In lieu of bachelors degree must have linguistic and cultural experience in order to provide translation and cultural brokering.
